My Classroom

My Philosophy

Building a positive and comfortable learning environment assists the students feeling comfortable about their learning. It is tremendously important to create a supportive and encouraging classroom where the students' interests and backgrounds are taken into consideration. Each student needs to feel important and celebrated for their achievements without comparison to one another.

“We destroy the love of learning in children... by encouraging and compelling them to work for petty and contemptible rewards for the ignoble satisfaction of feeling that they are better than someone else”
― John Holt

Classroom Displays

Promoting and celebration of work is an excellent way to promote confidence in young learners in the classroom. I believe that every student has the right to have their work displayed in a supportive environment. This encourages the students to keep persisting and creating work to be proud of and provides the school and wider community to see what the students have been doing.

In the classroom, I have achieved Standard 1.6 Strategies to support full participation of students with disability by being inclusive within the classroom community. Regardless of the students abilities, all students have the right to be rewarded for effort. I have also achieved Standard 3.5 Use effective classroom communicationThis form of communication is through non-verbal by communicating the displayed work to the rest of the school community including teachers and peers.

Behaviour Management

My stance on behaviour management is early inteventionand positive re-enforcement. I believe that it is incredibly important to build a positive classroom environment that supports and encourages every single student in the class. The behaviour management strategy needs to be individualised to suit the students' needs in the classroom.

It is not one size fits all.

In the classroom, I have achieved multiple standards. I have achieved Standards 1.1 Physical, social and intellectual development and characteristics of students, 3.5 Use effective classroom communication,

4.2 Manage classroom activities, 4.3 Manage challenging behaviour

by knowing the students and developing my strategies around the students. By using the behaviour management strategies effectively, I was able to manage the challenging behaviour and the classroom activitites effectively.

Rapport Building Exercises

A teacher cannot teach effectively without knowing the skills, interests and abilities of the students.

I beleive that it is incredibly important to build a positive classroom environment that suports and encourages every single student in the class. 'Get-to-know-you-games' are an excellent way to build a positive relationship with the students and to gain an understanding of their interests and individual personalities.

In the classroom, I have achieved Standard 1 Know students and how they learn. Activities such as the ones pictured to the side allow the teacher to unpack the students virtual school bag and assist the teacher in individualising learning. I have also achieved Standard 4 Create and maintain supportive and safe learning environments by developing a sense of support by developing activities that promote inclusivity.

Building an inclusive Environment

Each and every student that a teacher will teach will have different needs and abilities. It is so important that all students feel included and are supported throughout their education. By adapting lessons and creating ways to differentiate learning experiences, each student will reach their potential.
